KLICKITAT CO. — The Klickitat-Lyle Against Substance Abuse Coalition (KLASAC) will be hosting two tech talks for parents, with a focus on skills and tools to support their children in using technology safely.

WHITE SALMON — The White Salmon Valley Education Foundation will hold its fifth annual Career Day at Columbia High School on March 27 from 8:15 a.m. to 1:40 p.m.
WHITE SALMON — Lilli McCauley, a junior at the White Salmon Academy in the White Salmon Valley School District, has been named Career Connect Southwest’s 2023 Washington STEM Rising Star.
OLYMPIA — On Aug. 15, legendary icon, musician and philanthropist Dolly Parton will visit Washington State to celebrate achieving statewide coverage of the Imagination Library. All Washington children from birth to age five can now register to receive one book every month, for free, from Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

OSU announces honor roll
Cypress Creek Renewables announced June 9 that they had selected three Klickitat County students to receive the Energizing Tomorrow’s Leaders Scholarship award: Trout Lake School’s Willa McLaughlin, Goldendale High School’s Thea Smith and Columbia High School’s Michael Smith.
WHITE SALMON —The Skyline Foundation recently awarded $6,000 from two scholarship funds to local students pursuing their dream of making a difference in health care.
HOOD RIVER — Hood River County School District Board of Directors met June 21 at the Nathaniel Coe Administration Center. Board members approved a new Hood River Education Association contract, increased the number of interdistrict transfer student openings, certified the May 16 election results, and approved a roof project for Hood River Valley High School.
HOOD RIVER — Hood River County School Board members said goodbye to Tom Scully (position 5) at their June 21 meeting. Scully joined the board in 2015 and has served for eight years.
Update, 2:30 p.m. — The Klickitat County Sheriff's Office has determined that there is no active threat and have cleared all buildings, district officials said in an announcement. "We will come out of lockdown at this time and buses will begin running their active routes," the announcement said.
The White Salmon Valley School District Board of Directors appointed Jerry Lewis, who served as the district’s superintendent for 12 years, as acting superintendent until July following the resignation of former superintendent Sean McGeeney. Lewis retired in 2021.
SEATTLE — Students from the White Salmon area have been named to the dean’s list at the University of Washington for spring 2022. To qualify for the dean’s list, a student must have completed at least 12 graded credits and have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (out of 4).
WHITE SALMON — The Umpqua Bank Charitable Foundation, a 501c3 organization of Umpqua Bank, has awarded 56 grants to local nonprofits across its footprint totaling $331,500.
A national search is under way for Columbia Gorge Community College’s next president.
WHITE SALMON — White Salmon Valley School District officials are facing a $3.72 million budget shortfall for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year, according to current projections.
Unofficial election results show Klickitat County voters approved all ballot proposals for all school district replacement and capital levies, enabling Trout Lake, Lyle, and White Salmon Valley school districts to fund operations through 2026.
Hood River County School District (HRCSD) conducted its biannual core values survey in June 2022. The purpose of these surveys, which are conducted in the fall and spring each year, is to assess the school district’s performance on each core values.
WAGAP Board makes childcare part of strategic plan for Klickitat County
TROUT LAKE — Residents of the Trout Lake School District interested in becoming more involved in the community are invited to run for election to the Trout Lake Community Council.
Columbia Gorge Community College is home to America’s newest aviation maintenance technician training program upon official recognition this month by the Federal Aviation Administration.
