Charges — Feb. 8-14, Hood River police charged the following: driving suspended (one), DUII (one), fail to perform duties of driver (one), harassment (one to two), disorderly conduct (one to two), warrant (two). Feb. 13-19, Oregon State Police (OSP) charged people with charges not noted (one), disorderly (two), driving suspended (three), drug violation (one), DUII (three), harassment (one), obstructing (one), possession of stolen vehicle (one), possession of burglary tool or theft device (one), reckless driving (three), reckless endangering (one), supplying contraband (one), unauthorized use vehicle (one). Other agencies don’t reveal arrests.
Camera alert — Feb. 18, troopers stopped a car in Rufus after an alert from an Axon ALPR (automated license plate reader) and arrested both occupants, the driver on possession of stolen vehicle, possession of methamphetamine, and supplying contraband; the passenger on unauthorized use of vehicle, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of burglary tool.
Fight — A fight at Big River Pizza in Arlington drew Gilliam County deputies and a trooper who detained two intoxicated people, charging both with disorderly conduct, one with harassment.
Open containers — Feb. 14, trooper stopped speeding car on I-84 eastbound, found it littered with open containers of alcohol, uninsured, and driven by a suspended driver who got four citations.
DUII crashes — Feb. 17, driver seriously injured in a crash on US 197, milepost 15 southbound. A witness reported seeing the 32-year-old driver going too fast for conditions. Truck rolled at least once, stopping upright; driver taken to local hospital and charged with DUII and reckless driving, with a charge of obstructing government administration for the District Attorney to consider; a dog was unhurt. Feb. 13, lone Dodge Ram in Sherman County struck a power pole near Beacon and Emigrant Springs. Passenger went to a hospital, driver was charged with DUII, reckless driving and reckless endangering.
Other crashes — OSP reported three. Feb. 13, driver had a medical event and veered across lanes near milepost 88 eastbound on I-84, hit a shoulder, landed in a ditch. They were hospitalized and their dog temporarily taken to a shelter. Feb. 15, an eastbound Subaru left its lane on I-84 near milepost 142, over-corrected, and crashed across both lanes and onto the shoulder, facing the wrong way. Feb. 18, Toyota went too fast down Highway 97, rolling on black ice near milepost 63 northbound. Hood River reported two non-injury crashes, one on I-84, another an empty car in a parking lot. The Dalles, three crashes.
Violence — In Hood River, after an assault, female and juvenile cited for harassment and disorderly conduct. Feb. 9, police responded to child abuse report. In The Dalles, nine domestic violence calls, three assault calls. Wasco deputies got two domestic violence calls.
Fugitive — Feb. 10, Hood River officers went to a disturbance and arrested one person on warrant, plus reporting a No Contact Order violation between two others.
Thefts — Hood River police reported ID theft, theft by deception, shoplifting at Walmart, and Feb. 11, responded to an attempted burglary call. The Dalles reported four thefts and burglary call from E. 12th, Feb. 18. Wasco County got one fraud, a theft call from Eightmile.
Four deaths — Three in The Dalles, taking place on W. 12th, Feb. 17; Dry Hollow Road Feb. 18; and Feb. 19, on Pomona Street. In Wasco County, a death on N. Eagle Point Road, Feb. 13.
Mental health — The Dalles got six mental health calls, plus three calls regarding suicidal persons. Wasco County got one mental health call, and another regarding suicide.
Missing person report — from W. 25th Street Feb. 14. The Dalles.
Angling — Troopers found a sturgeon one-half inch short of the limit with angler during boat patrol. They cited the angler, seized the fish, revived it, and released it alive. Feb. 19, troopers found a fillet’d four-foot sturgeon in the John Day River. It’s illegal to take from the John Day, but legal on mainstem; someone could have discarded it.
Two Hood River hit-and-run reports — Feb. 8, Washington resident rear-ended another SUV and left the scene, later cited and released for fail to perform duties of driver. The other driver was cited for driving without insurance.
Unlawful use of vehicle — Feb. 16, Pentland Street, The Dalles.
