6 non-injury crashes. Feb. 6, Chevy Malibu entered I-84 eastbound from a Mosier on-ramp, failed to yield on a lane change and hit a commercial vehicle. Feb. 7, BMW failed to yield to a passing driver on I-84. Feb. 8, a Ford F150 lost sight of the road due to spray from a passing commercial vehicle in steady rain on I-84, Wasco County. Two other cars hydroplaned and hit the median or guardrail. Feb. 9, car on Hwy 206 in Gilliam hit black ice.
Fire investigation — A mobile home caught fire with four tenants inside on Mill Creek Road Feb. 6. One, a disabled person, was admitted to a hospital for injuries. The tenant in the room where the fire started could not be found and interviewed. Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue as well as Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office conducted the Origin and Cause investigation with the assistance of the Accelerant Detection Canine Team. Wasco County Sheriff’s Office is lead for any criminal charges.
Two DUII arrests. Feb. 9, trooper stopped a Ford SUV for traffic violation on I-84 and arrested the driver on DUII and reckless driving charges.
Feb. 9, a trooper was on the shoulder of I-84 near milepost 82 westbound, with emergency lights on, with a tow truck. A passenger car nearly crashed into both patrol car and tow truck. The trooper recognized it as being involved with a Silver Alarm out of Wasco County; the vehicle was stopped, the driver found to be the missing person and reunited with family — and submitted for re-testing with the DMV.
Fire. Feb. 10, a commercial truck eastbound on I-84 near milepost 68 caught fire and stopped on the shoulder.
Drug violation — Feb. 11, a trooper stopped a Subaru on I-84 near milepost 86 eastbound for an observed violation and saw drug paraphernalia in plain view. The driver, lacking insurance or license for the vehicle, was cited and released for possession of methamphetamine and the vehicle impounded.
