Drug violations — Feb. 11, a trooper stopped a Subaru on I-84 near milepost 86 eastbound for an observed violation and saw drug paraphernalia in plain view. The driver, lacking insurance or license for the vehicle, was cited and released for possession of methamphetamine and the vehicle impounded.
In Hood River Feb. 5, Cascade Locks resident was cited and released on DUII - alcohol and illegal possession of firearm. That week, a Hood River resident got charged with DUII - alcohol and reckless driving, having more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in their blood, and a Lyle resident arrested on DUII charges, both alcohol and controlled substance.
Meanwhile, The Dalles police responded to four DUIIs in one week.
Fire investigations — A mobile home caught fire with four tenants inside on Mill Creek Road Feb. 6. One, a disabled person, was admitted to a hospital for injuries. The tenant in the room where the fire started could not be found and interviewed. Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue as well as Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office conducted the Origin and Cause investigation with the assistance of the Accelerant Detection Canine Team. Wasco County Sheriff’s Office is lead for any criminal charges.
Feb. 10, a commercial truck eastbound on I-84 near milepost 68 caught fire and stopped on the shoulder.
Missing person finds trooper — Feb. 9, a trooper was on the shoulder of I-84 near milepost 82 westbound, with emergency lights on, with a tow truck. A passenger car nearly crashed into both patrol car and tow truck. The trooper recognized it as being involved with a Silver Alarm out of Wasco County; the vehicle was stopped, the driver found to be the missing person and reunited with family — and submitted for re-testing with the DMV.
Two missing person calls came from The Dalles, one from Wasco County.
Six non-injury crashes reported by OSP — Feb. 6, Chevy Malibu entered I-84 eastbound from a Mosier on-ramp, failed to yield on a lane change and hit a commercial vehicle. Feb. 7, BMW failed to yield to a passing driver on I-84. Feb. 8, a Ford F150 lost sight of the road due to spray from a passing commercial vehicle in steady rain on I-84, Wasco County. Two other cars hydroplaned and hit the median or guardrail. Feb. 9, car on Hwy 206 in Gilliam hit black ice.
Meanwhile, The Dalles police went to nine crashes in nine different places. Hood River, one.Â
Charges — Feb. 6-13, Oregon state police charged people with driving suspended or revoked (1), drugs (1), DUII (2), reckless driving (2), warrant (4). Feb. 1-7, Hood River officers charged folks with DUII (3), reckless driving (1), restraining order violation (1), theft (2), weapon (1). Feb. 2-7, Bingen-White Salmon officers arrested one person for DUII and driving suspended.Â
Thefts — Wasco reported a theft on Rock Creek Road; The Dalles 12 thefts, including four each on W. Sixth and E. 10th, and two thefts calls from Boat Basin Road; also, a fraud and two burglaries on E. Ninth and Eighth streets, respectively. Hood River’s seven thefts: Scam text messages and unauthorized charges on bank account; shoplifting at Safeway and Walmart; theft by deception; bike; and ID theft.
Violence — The Dalles police got an assault call, and eight domestic violence calls.Â
Mental health — The Dalles police got six mental health calls, and one regarding possible suicidal ideation.Â
Deaths — Feb. 11, on W. Sixth, The Dalles. Feb. 1, unattended death of an 89-year-old in Hood River. Feb. 2, Officers responded to a CPR in progress in Hood River and the person was declared dead.
Gunshots — Feb. 4, multiple gunshots were fired and hit multiple vehicles, reported at Hood River Police Department. A log was made for insurance purposes.
Bingen-White Salmon police — helped a lost hiker, responded to barking and lost dogs, took a report of stolen tires and responded to a call of suicidal ideation.
