Sea Drama: Sinking Barge saved. On its way to Vietnam, this barge looked as if it could never make it when it started going down in mid-ocean. Leon Scobey of Rt. 3, Hood River, a cook for Pacific Inland Navigation, was on one of the tugs being used in the rescue operation. When he caught sight of the partly-submerged barge, he started snapping pictures with his small box camera.

Re-creation of the old-time Salmon Festival, formerly held by the Wy-am Indians at Celilo Village annually as a religious observance ofwelcome for migration of salmon in the Columbia river is planned as a fundraiser project to build a new longhouse. The Longhouse... was lost in a fire five years ago. ... The salmon dinner will be the big event, but also planned by the Indians is entertainment to include dancing, drumming, the old traditional bone games and displays by bead workers, Holverson said.

Industry seeks port building complex space. Another sailboard manufacturer is eager to establish a business in the Port of Hood River’s Diamond complex. Herry Presley of Windrider Canada told port commsisioners monday at their meeting that he would like to have a small retial outlet established by late April or early May. Windrider is the fourth operation hoping to locate in the Cannery complex.
