Police briefs
DUII arrests — In one incident, troopers stopped driver with a medical issue in the Dry Hollow Elementary school zone for speeding, driving into the oncoming lane, and not wearing a seatbelt and arrested them on a DUII charge. They were released at the hospital.
Injury crashes — An intoxicated driver was severely injured in a crash on Highway 97, Wasco County, on April 25. The northbound car crossed over both lanes before leaving road and rolling several times, ejecting the driver from the vehicle. LifeFlight took them to a Bend hospital. State troopers also cited and released the driver, whose blood alcohol level was 0.21%, for DUII and reckless driving.
Separately on April 26, a lone semi towing a 53-foot trailer rolled on a northbound curve in Highway 97, and reported minor injuries. The highway was completely blocked for several hours.
Other crashes — OSP reported two non-injury crashes. On April 25, a southbound car on Hwy 197 struck a deer, then a rock wall. OSP collected the deer and provided a crash report. On April 30, two cars collided on I-84 near Exit 47 westbound when a passenger car tried to pass a merging commercial truck. Wasco County reported a crash on Highway 197/97. The Dalles logged six. In Hood River, a driver left the road at Rand/Montello, smashed a fence and landed in a yard.
Charges — On April 24-May 1, OSP charged people with driving suspended (one), DUII (five), false info (one), reckless driving (four), restraining order violation (one), warrant (one). April 19-25, Hood River charged people with assault (two), criminal mischief (one), disorderly conduct (two), fail to register as sex offender (one), warrant (one). On April 20-26, Bingen-White Salmon police charged people for disorderly conduct (one), driving suspended (one), indecent exposure (one), warrant (two).
Deaths — On April 24, Wasco County responded to a death on W. 10th and Chenowith Creek. Hood River police reported an unattended death on April 24.
Thefts — Wasco County reported thefts on W. 10th and Bear Creek Campground. The Dalles logged 21 thefts, including numerous frauds, and a burglary call from E. Ninth. Hood River reported shoplifting from a liquor store.
Violence — Wasco County logged an assault and two domestic violence calls; The Dalles police, three domestic violence calls and four assaults.
In Hood River April 25, an officer responded to a fight in progress, spoke to both participants, and determined it was “mutual combat.” Neither contestant wanted to press charges.
Knife threat — April 20, a Hood River person reported an unknown male entered her home and menaced her son and husband with a knife. A report for residential burglary was taken.
Road rage — April 21, a road rage incident on Button Bridge and East Marina Way resulted in citations for disorderly conduct and assault.
Mental health — The Dalles reported two mental health calls, and two regarding suicide. White Salmon-Bingen also got a call about suicide a week earlier.
In Bingen-White Salmon — Police took two domestic violence calls, cited a female for indecent exposure, looked into an animal call, helped the fire department douse a burning porch in Bingen April 26, and were — for the second week in a row — unable to locate a mysterious green laser.
