Mary Nelson passed away April 22, 2026, in Hood River, Oregon, after a short battle with cancer at the age of 85. Mary was born March 27,1941, in Dawson, Minnesota, to parents Berniece and Lawrence Larson and grew up in Portland, Oregon. Mary married Monte Nelson on Nov. 9, 1957, in Stevenson, Washington. The couple moved to Hood River in 1959, and Monte worked for his father, John Nelson, owner of Hood River Sand and Gravel. Later they purchased a trucking company and hauled locally. Mary worked at Sears, Farmers Insurance and Les Schwab Tire.
Mary was preceded in death by husband, Monte, parents, Lawrence and Berniece, stepfather Carl Green, and sisters Beth, and Karen. Her surviving sons are Mike Nelson, The Dalles, Oregon, Bill Nelson, Hood River, and Mark and wife Sheilah Nelson, Hood River; and sister Wendy and husband Steve Silcox, Rhododendron, Oregon.
The family will plan a private ceremony at Pine Grove Butte Cemetery in the future. Condolences may be shared with the family by visiting www.AndersonsTributeCenter.com.
