Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
Margaret “Peggy” Elise Tomlin passed away on April 21, 2026. She was born on Oct. 1, 1942, in Helena, Montana, to Mary Marron Olsen and Leland West Olsen. Peggy was raised in Parkdale, Oregon, and graduated from Wy’east High School in 1960. After graduation, she moved to Portland, Oregon, where she married Robert “Bob” Tomlin in 1962. Together, they welcomed two daughters, Jennifer and Angela.
Peggy devoted many years to caring for her family as a homemaker. She later returned to the workforce, where she was known for her dedication and strong work ethic. She worked for Northwest Paper Box and the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office in Portland before relocating to Astoria in 1994. There, she joined the staff of the Clatsop County District Attorney’s Office, where she remained until her retirement in 2007. In her later years, Peggy found joy in spending time with her family, doting on her cherished cats, and occasionally enjoying a lucky moment at a slot machine.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, beloved brother, Raymond Olsen, and half-brother Fred Olsen. She is survived by her daughter Jennifer Bunch; granddaughter Rachel Caisse; and great-grandson Marcus Marteeny, all of Astoria, Oregon; and by her daughter Angela Tomlin of Hood River. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Sandstad of Vancouver, Washington; sister-in-law, Rainy Olsen of Ashland, Oregon; and friend of over 60 years, Muriel Keyes of Beaverton, Oregon.
Peggy’s family wishes to thank the staff of Clatsop Care Memory Community for their kindness. At Peggy’s request, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Peggy’s honor to organizations advocating for honesty, justice, and accountability in public service.
