Edward Reed Gunderson (aka “Uncle Blasto”), age 68, passed away on March 30, 2026, at Timber Pointe Senior Living in Springfield, Oregon. Edward was born on Aug. 13, 1957, in Concord, California. He grew up in Hood River, Oregon, and later lived in Florence, Oregon.
He spent much of his career working for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at the Spring Creek National Fish Hatchery in White Salmon, Washington. Ed was a true Renaissance man with a wide range of passions and talents. He enjoyed many activities, including fencing, motorcycling, creative arts, and spending time outdoors. He had a special love for animals of all kinds including dogs, cats, fish, turtles, frogs, iguanas, ferrets, and a notorious raccoon.
Ed was an accomplished artist; he exhibited his work in Florence and shared his talent by teaching art classes at the LCC campus on the coast. In his younger years, he was also an accomplished fencer who received numerous awards.
He is survived by his wife, Vicki Crabtree Gunderson; his daughters, Sarah Gunderson and Marian Gunderson; and his brothers, Eric L. Gunderson and Kriss Gunderson. Edward is preceded in death by his parents, Jean and Leland Gunderson; and his grandparents, Elvira and Edward Gunderson, and Anna and Joseph Smullen.
