The Dalles High Riverhawks girls golf team competed in the Class 5A Intermountain Conference tournament April 18 at Eagle Crest Resort Ridge Golf Course in Redmond and sophomore Nellie Wilkinson had an outstanding performance, shooting 97 to take third place overall individually.

It might seem hard to believe that at this point of the season a game could be considered must win, but that’s probably what The Dalles High Riverhawks were facing in a Class 5A Intermountain Conference softball matchup against the Ridgeview High Ravens on Friday.

Last week was frustrating for sure for The Dalles High Riverhawks, as they lost three Class 5A Intermountain Conference baseball games, extended their losing streak to six. Then on April 20, longtime (18 years) Coach Steve Sugg was dismissed from his position and assistant Coach Ed Ortega was named as interim head coach for the remainder of the season.

Playing for the first time in two weeks, The Dalles High Riverhawks boys golf team took second place in the six-team Class 5A Intermountain Conference tournament April 18 at Meadow Lakes Golf Course in Prineville.

The Hawks, guided by Coach Dan Telles, had a score of 369, just 10 strokes behind the first place Crook County High Cowboys at 359. It was their fifth event this year and the Hawks have finished in third place or better in every tournament they’ve entered. The Hawks were unable to play April 11 because a tourney in Pendleton was canceled because of snow.

Road-weary Columbia High shook off a 2-0 loss April 14 against Seton Catholic to grind out wins in a pair of boys soccer matches this past week.

The Bruins (6-3-1 overall, 5-2 district) topped host Winlock, 3-2, on April 19 and beat visiting La Center 3-2 a day later. The grinding came in part because of the nine-hour round trip to Winlock and then a next-day match against La Center. It also came because of the quality of competition the Bruins had to face in the physical matches.

Hood River Valley’s boys golf team placed fifth out of six teams at a Class 5A Intermountain Conference tournament April 18 at Meadow Lakes Golf Course in Prineville.

Things are coming together for Hood River Valley’s girls track and field team, as it continues its march toward next month’s Intermountain Conference district meet. The Eagles are fine-tuning by mixing and matching some of the pieces to compete the puzzle.
