The South Wasco County High Redsides boys basketball team extended its win streak to five straight games following a 56-30 Class 1A nonleague victory at home over Cove on Dec. 11 in the John Howey Memorial Tournament in Maupin.
Junior forward Ian Ongers led the Redsides in scoring with 18 points. Senior guards Remington Anderson-Sheer (13 points) and Oscar Thomas (17 points) also scored in double figures for the Redsides.

This week will be a telling one for the Hood River Valley boys basketball team, as the Eagles surpass the halfway point of their nonleague schedule.
HRV went 2-1 against Class 6A schools last week, splitting games at Centennial High this past weekend after winning at home against Sandy, 64-63, on Dec. 7. The Eagles sit at 3-2 with telling games Tuesday and Wednesday against teams that a couple of their Intermountain Conference brethren have already played.

The Dalles High Riverhawks girls basketball team won two home games by double-digit margins this past week and then suffered a lopsided loss on the road.

Just like they were during the short spring season when they were undefeated (9-0), the No. 2 ranked Trout Lake High girls basketball team is one of the best teams in the Gorge again during the winter season.
The Mustangs will be tested Friday when 3-1 Dufur comes to town for the Big Sky League opener for both teams.

The Sherman High Huskies captured a second straight victory in Class 1A girls basketball, 44-40, at Elgin High on Dec. 11.

The Dalles High Riverhawks boys and girls swim teams competed in their season opening meet Dec. 10 at the River City Invitational in Scappoose. Both teams placed third out of six teams; the boys scored 180 points and the girls 215.
