Warrant — On April 7, a state trooper stopped a sedan for multiple violations and nabbed the driver on a nationwide felony warrant from Arkansas.
Vehicle crashes — State police reported two, no injuries: April 7, Tesla swerved to avoid a sleeping bag and hit a the driver’s step of a commercial truck on I-84, milepost 86 eastbound. The same day, a commercial truck allegedly hit a guardrail near milepost 129 westbound, but had no damage when found. Requests for dash cam video from both parties are pending.Â
In The Dalles, three DUII incidents, three crash calls, a hit-and-run call. Hood River reported four DUII arrests, including a Portland resident arrested on DUII, reckless driving, and reckless endangering charges. In Hood River, two non-injury crashes, one a collision near May Street Elementary April 1.
DUII arrests — April 4, troopers responded to a crash on I-84 near milepost 60 westbound. The driver had fled when they arrived, leaving a baggie of methamphetamine visible on the floorboards. The troopers seized the car, got a search warrant, and found a concealed pistol. The driver was found and charged with DUII, reckless driving, possession of the meth, illegal possession of a firearm, and making a false report. Two days later in the same spot, troopers responded to a driving complaint, found a Honda stopped in the middle of an exit, and arrested the driver for DUII, reckless driving and endangering another person.Â
In one Hood River traffic stop, officers found cocaine and submitted it for destruction.
Two injury crashes — On April 3, a Harley Davidson motorcycle on I-84 westbound lost control and went down near milepost 57. The driver was taken to a Portland hospital and interviewed there. They were not impaired. On April 6, ODOT closed one lane of I-84 for construction near milepost 44 westbound, and a driver who said they couldn’t switch lanes in heavy traffic hit ODOT’s truck-mounted attenuator, causing minor injuries. The car was towed and the driver received three citations.Â
Charges — April 3-10, Oregon State Police charged people with driving suspended (two), drug violations (one), DUII (four), false info (one), firearm violations (one), reckless driving (three), reckless endangering (two), warrant (one). March 29-April 4, Hood River police charged people with assault (one), DUII (four), reckless driving (one), reckelss endangering (one), theft (one), illegal use of pepper spray (one), warrant (two). Other agencies don’t reveal arrests. March 23-April 5, Bingen-White Salmon police charged people with domestic assault (one), DUII (one), warrant (one). In March, Hood River Sheriff’s Office arrested people on charges of disorderly (one), DUII (one), possession of meth (one), trespass (one), warrant (five).
Mental health — Wasco County logged two mental health calls. The Dalles got two, and four calls regarding suicide.
Violence — Three domestic violence incidents in Wasco County. The Dalles recorded 10, plus an assault. In Hood River, an adult male was arrested for illegal use of pepper spray and domestic assault involving a parent.
Deaths — One death on Sevenmile High South Road, Wasco County. Another on Jewell Road April 5, also reported by The Dalles police. March 30 in Hood River, a 39-year-old was found dead at a residence.
Thefts — In Wasco, burglary call from Rowena Ferry Road on April 8 and five thefts, including two alleged frauds. The Dalles reported a burglary call from W. Seventh, a stolen car, and 14 thefts (including seven on W. Sixth). Hood River reported six thefts: two shopliftings, stolen vehicle, ID theft, online rental scam.
Missing person — April 9, Pomona, The Dalles.
Drugs — incidents on Brewery Grade, April 3; W. Sixth, April 8; Columbia View Drive east, April 9.
Gang mischief — Gang-related criminal mischief was reported happening the night before March 29 in Hood River, and is pending follow-up. April 3, officer was told of extensive spray-painted graffiti in a Jackson Park restroom, with no suspect.Â
Bingen-White Salmon — Police logged missing mail, a stolen package, a crash on Hood River bridge on March 24, an injured deer; three domestic violence reports, one ending in arrest; a sex offense report; and a suicidal person referred to mental health services.
Hood River County in March — In March, the county saw seven theft reports, including five car prowls, two ID thefts, stolen car, and fraud; dog killing chickens; and a missing child report.Â
March 17, a person was arrested for domestic assault and unlawful use of weapon, over an incident in Columbia County; March 12, a possible assault and motor vehicle theft near Tucker Road/Portland Drive was referred to the District Attorney.
On March 8, unattended death. On March 14, possible unattended death at Bottle Prairie Trailhead.Â
Four domestic violence calls, one ending with a person in custody on a mental health hold; illegal dumping at WAAAM; and two crashes, both non-injury, on Dee Hwy and Hwy 35.Â
Search and rescues — On March 8, search and rescue for two cold and exhausted hikers in the Mt. Hood Wilderness; Crag Rats and PNW SAR also joined. Both were found. March 28, search and rescue for injured hiker/skier in the Devil’s Kitchen Area; later discovered Clackamas County was also looking, who joined up at Timberline Lodge.
