OSAA Speech and Debate State Championships took place at Western Oregon University on Apr 23-25.
19 Hood River Valley High School students made it to compete against 55 at state. There were a total of 468 entries. Senior Bee Carsley took first place in Poetry, for the second time in her high school career, making her a rare two-year state champion.
Other special recognition to Everen Garrett (junior) for breaking into Super Congress and Fatima Banuelos-Santillan, finalist in Poetry; semifinalist in Dramatic Interpretation Adrianna Bring, semifinalist in Radio Tate Shays, and semifinalists in Duo Interpretation Skylar Nelson and Isaac Serrano!
HRVHS brought home the 4th place, 5A division sweepstake awards. Four seniors were awarded the “Four Year Award” for competing at State: Bee Carsley, Adrianna Brink, Fatima Banuelos-Santillan, and Sadie Henry. It was an invigorating tournament, and our Eagles represented our community well.
