Your Vote Counts: A sign encouraging voter turnout in Hood River.
Carola Stepper photoHOOD RIVER — There is a lot of misinformation surrounding voting this November, and the Gorge UU Fellowship is inviting residents to bring questions and get the facts directly from election administrators Oct. 1 from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Rockford Grange, 4262 Barrett Drive.
This free, non-partisan community forum will feature election officials from Wasco and Hood River counties in Oregon and Klickitat County in Washington.
Forum panelists include Klickitat County Auditor Heather Jobe, Klickitat County Elections Administrator Brandie Sullivan, Wasco County Clerk Chrissy Zaugg, and Hood River County Acting Clerk Kelly Silva Magaña, who will address voter registration eligibility and timing; receipt and return of ballots by mail; ballot drop box placement and security; tabulation of ballots and votes; transparency in the election process; incorrect or unlawful registration and voting; and making a personal plan for voting in November.
“The purposes of the Forum are to educate the public and answer questions about how elections in our Gorge communities are administered,” said a Gorge UU Fellowship media release. “Misinformation and disinformation about the conduct of federal and state elections have resulted in confusion and threatened public confidence in the electoral process. Please come and participate in this important community forum. Bring your questions and observations.”
“Free, Fair, Safe and Secure” is part of a series of forums on democratic processes sponsored this year by the Gorge UU Fellowship at the Grange. Forum topics have included a winter forum on free speech and the press, and a spin forum on voting and elections held prior to primaries and special elections in both Oregon and Washington.
