THE DALLES — Caregivers are invited to monthly caregiver support sessions on the first, second and fourth Wednesdays of the month in November.
The sessions will be a “Lunch and Learn” format and held from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at the Mid-Columbia Senior Center, 1112 W. Ninth, said Cherry Blossom Respite Program Coordinator Danette Utley, who will lead the sessions.
First Wednesday: Dementia 101 for Caregivers. Covers basic understanding of dementia and states of progression, person-centered care, the art of cueing and providing support, and communication tips.
Second Wednesday: Source Resources for Caregivers. Learn where to find different supports and answers for questions as you navigate caregiving. Online resources will be discussed, lending library books available, and information on the Alzheimer’s Association and Cherry Blossom Respite available.
Fourth Wednesday: Caregiver Support Group. Burnout, behaviors, and challenging family dynamics can take a toll. Share stories, ask questions, and listen and offer encouragement and ideas.
Bring a lunch or purchase one from Meals on Wheels for $5 at noon (meal service goes until 12:30 p.m.). Tables will be set up and coffee available in the Deschutes Room.
