Top-ranked The Dalles continues strong play

THE GORGE — The No. 2-ranked The Dalles High Riverhawks (Class 4A, 6-0-1 overall) improved to 3-0 in Tri-Valley Conference play this past week with league wins over visiting Madras (8-0, Sept. 29) and at Molalla (6-1, Oct.1).

Coach Colby Tonn’s squad has outscored seven opponents by a combined score of 34-1. The offensive stats are worthy, but six shutouts (including a 0-0 tie vs. Scappoose) are over-the-top impressive.

Senior goalkeeper Oliva Prado gets plenty of defensive support from Bryce Newby in the center of the field, Kaiya Doty, Paisley Withrow, Josie Gunderson and others.

The Dalles had a big test Oct. 5 at home against No. 7 Estacada (6-1-1), whose lone loss was to Sandy — which was ranked No. 1 in 5A at the time. The Rangers also entered the match against the Riverhawks with a 3-0 league record. Other than the Sandy match (8-0 Pioneer win), Estacada has posted five shutouts.

Columbia snaps skid

Columbia High snapped a three-match losing streak with an 8-0 win over visiting Stevenson on Oct. 1 in White Salmon. The Bruins improved to 4-3-1 this season and 3-3-1 in Trico League matches. Earlier last week, Columbia lost 8-0 at Seton Catholic in Vancouver, WA.

Trout Lake begins district play

The Trout Lake girls soccer team finished its nonleague slate of games with a 6-3 record. OSAA Class 3A/2A/1A Special District 1 matches begin this week with an away game Oct. 5 at Westside Christian and an Oct. 8 home match vs. Corbett.
