THE GORGE — Trout Lake’s Melody Stock and Felicity Peck finished 1-2 at the Bridgette Nelson cross country meet Sept. 25 at Sorosis Park in The Dalles, and the host Riverhawks won the girls and boys races.
Stock won the 5,000-meter girls race in 19 minutes, 56 seconds; Peck was second in 20:48. The Dalles was led by Alessandra Meza, who was fourth overall, and helped her team beat Heppner, 24-35.
The Dalles boys were paced by the 2-3-4 finish of Lazarus Taylor, Luke Sorenson, and Zeb Stelzer. The Riverhawks beat two other complete teams.
Columbia High
Senior Lilah Zimmerman paced the Columbia High School cross country teams at two meets this past week. Zimmerman finished fifth in her race – over the difficult 5,000-meter course - at the Three Course Challenge on Sept. 26 in Seaside. She was timed in 21:47. Teammate Kathryn O’Conner was 14th on the moderate course (22:49).
They also led the Bruins in a league meet, Sept. 22 at David Douglas Park in Vancouver. Zimmerman led her team to the win over Stevenson and King’s Way, winning the 5,000-meter race in 20:03; O’Conner was fourth in 22:27.
Columbia’s boys team finished seventh in the moderate course race out of 30 teams at Seaside. Jack Brooks was 13th overall in the race in 18:42. The Bruins were ninth out of 19 scoring teams in the difficult course race and led by Luther Thomas’ 50th place.
The Bruin boys were paced by the 1-2-3 finish of Brooks, Owen Becker-Nunley and Colby Clark at Vancouver; the Bruins beat three other teams.
Hood River Valley
The Eagles also competed in two meets this past week. They raced at a Northwest Conference meet Sept. 23 in Sandy and Sept. 26 at the 130-team Nike Portland XC at Blue Lake Park in Portland. In the league meet, the Eagle girls finished third and were led by Isabel Ulland, who was ninth in 23:14. Savina Davis led HRV at Blue Lake Park, finishing 67th in the Championship race in 19:08.
Hood River’s boys varsity team trained through the Sandy meet and finished 21st out of 32 teams in the Championship race at Blue Lake Park. Gus VandenHeuvel was 82nd in 16:06, and Josh Carley was 108th in 16:19 to lead the Eagles.
