Parkhurst House Senior Living Community

Do you have an open heart and some extra time? Parkhurst House is seeking volunteers who will spend a little time with its residents doing activities that you both enjoy, such as playing cards, exercise, singing, playing a musical instrument, watching movies, scrapbooking, sewing/cross-stitching, religious studies, playing bingo, cooking, reading books, giving manicures, facials or massages, gardening, storytelling, poetry reading, playing sports or board games.

Next Door seeks foster parents

The Next Door Inc. provides care and treatment for children and teens ranging in age from 4-18. Most of the children’s lives have been broken in some way, resulting in emotional and behavioral instability.

The children and teens receive a life-changing opportunity by being a part of NDI’s treatment programs. The children served by NDI need homes in our community in order for them to participate in NDI programs. Professional foster parents give the children a place to call home, a safe and loving environment to stay while they work on restoring their lives.

NDI foster parents are able to be a huge part of helping children and teens restore their lives, in hopes that these young people can grow to be successful members of society. Without the dedication from past, current and future foster parents, NDI would not be able to help children and youth make these beneficial life changes.

The Next Door Inc. employs a huge team of very skilled professionals; these people all working together to help change lives. NDI is expanding and is in desperate need for Wasco and Hood River county residents to become professional foster parents.

Court-Appointed Special Advocate Training

On May 9, Columbia Gorge CASA will hold its spring volunteer training for court-appointed special advocates.

CASA volunteers advocate for kids who are in foster care. This five- week training involves an interactive online component and weekly in-person meetings.

Lyle Lions collecting for ‘White Cane Day’

Each year during the month of May, the Lyle Lions Club has a “White Cane” awareness day to help raise funds for the Pacific Northwest Lions Foundation.

A goal of all Lions Clubs is to assist children and adults with vision and hearing challenges and provide funding towards vision tests, eye glasses, “white canes” for the blind, hearing aids and sight and hearing programs.

At the Saturday, May 4, Lyle Lions Breakfast, there will be a special donation box designated for “White Cane” day. Any amount donated will be greatly appreciated. All funds received will go directly toward the Pacific Northwest Lions Sight and Hearing programs which will impact many lives for the better.

The breakfast is held at the Lyle Lions Community Center, 501 State St., Lyle, Wash.
