THE DALLES — The No. 4-ranked The Dalles High Riverhawks continued to enjoy success in OSAA Class 4A girls volleyball as they recorded two more Tri-Valley Conference wins last week, while they also extended two impressive win streaks.
The defending TVC champion Riverhawks (1-0 TVC, 7-3 overall) won at home 3-0 over the North Marion High Huskies (1-5 TVC, 1-13 overall) on Oct. 5. It marked the 29th consecutive home win for the Riverhawks. The last time the Riverhawks were beaten at home was a 3-1 loss to the Crook County High Cowgirls on Sept. 14, 2023.
The Riverhawks, guided by fourth-year Coach Teresa Morris, followed with a 3-0 road win over the Gladstone High Gladiators (0-6 TVC, 2-13 overall) on Oct. 7 for a seventh consecutive victory. For the Riverhawks, it marked their 10th straight win against Gladstone overlapping the last five years. It was also their 18th consecutive TVC win overlapping the last three seasons. Their last setback was a 3-1 loss to the Crook County High Cowgirls on Oct. 8, 2024. Crook County moved up to Class 5A in 2025.
“We will see if we can remain undefeated in the league standings,” said Morris. “We still have to play Estacada (4-2 TVC, 8-7 overall), which is one of the strongest opponents in our league. Then we have to go play at Molalla, so we’ll definitely have to show up and play well enough to win those matches.”
The Riverhawks are led by junior outside hitter/setter Jazzy Morris-Holmes, who leads the team in digs and kills. Morris-Holmes, daughter of Coach Morris, has won the TVC Player-of-the-Year award the past two seasons and she is one of the leading contenders for the award again this season.
Coach Morris said: “I just think that she’s a player that could be put into any position and she’s going to do very well there. She can hit well from anywhere on the court. One thing about some players is that many hitters are strong at one position but they’re not strong at all positions. I think that’s one thing that helps make her above and beyond a majority of other players.”
The Riverhawks have four games left on their regular season schedule, which concludes with an Oct. 22, match at North Marion High School in Aurora. The playoffs begin Oct. 31 for The Dalles, if it wins the TVC title.
