Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
Lucille Jane Bennett of White Salmon, Washington, passed away peacefully at home on Sept. 8, 2026, at the age of 89. She was born on Jan. 22, 1937, to John and Mabel Huskey of Mosier, Oregon. Lucille attended school in Mosier and graduated from Mosier High School in 1954.
She married Ronald Bennett on Sept. 4, 1954. She was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, wife and friend to so many people from her hometown in Mosier to her chosen residence of White Salmon, to her final and sweet two and a half years with her middle daughter, Cindy VanGelder (and Scott), in Vancouver, Washington.
Lucille was such a devoted and caring person whose kindness touched the lives of everyone who knew her. She will be remembered for her generous heart, incredible sense of humor, and the love she gave so freely to her family and friends. Lucille was truly an ambassador of good will who never knew a stranger, made everyone feel welcome, and always reached out a helping hand.
Lucille loved her family deeply and cherished the time she spent with them. Her greatest joy was children. Besides being a loving Mom and Grandma to her own family, she was “Mom” to so many of her daughters’ friends and “Grandma” to the younger children of White Salmon. Later in life, she became a woman of strong faith who loved Jesus and found comfort and strength in her relationship with Him.
Lucille is survived by her four daughters: Rhonda (and Bob) Hicks of Arlington, Texas; Cindy (and Scott) VanGelder of Vancouver; Kathy (and Larry) White of Carnation, Washington; and Bridget (and Ruel) Suazon of Toronto, Canada. She had 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Jack (and Betty) Huskey, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was proceeded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Ron Bennett, in 2011, both of her parents, and several siblings.
Though our hearts are broken by her passing, we are grateful for the years we were blessed to have her in our lives. Her love, memories, and the example she gave us will remain in our hearts forever.
A celebration of life will be held for Lucille on Nov. 14 at her beloved church, Grace Baptist Church, 1280 W. Jewett Blvd., White Salmon, at 11 a.m. with a luncheon following. There will be additional parking available at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (used by permission) just down the street at 1074 W Jewett Blvd.
