Noah Noteboom / file photoWHITE SALMON — League leader Seton Catholic swept Columbia High in a two-game softball series last week, dropping the previously unbeaten Bruins into second place in the Trico League standings.
Seton (8-1 overall, 8-0 Trico) beat Columbia, 14-0, on April 15 and then 5-2 on April 17. Columbia was scheduled to return to the diamond on April 22 with a doubleheader at Kalama. The Bruins (6-2) are a game ahead of Kalama in the Trico standings.
The Bruins managed just three hits in the 5-2 loss to Seton, by Josie Dickey, Joella Posini and Kiera Bucher (double). Columbia didn’t score until the top of the seventh inning, as Seton pitcher Jocelyn Kender threw a complete game, striking out eight and walking one.
Two days later, in a five-inning contest, Kender threw four innings, allowing two hits and striking out eight. Halle Kock and Bucher had Columbia’s hits, both singles.
