Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
Ronell Louise Currie, 79, passed at her home in Mosier, Oregon, on Sept. 30, 2026, after beating the odds for two years with MDS Leukemia.
She was born on Aug. 14, 1947, and raised by her late mother Nellie Mae Fox Edwards and late father Robert O Holmes. She graduated from Sunset High School in Beaverton, Oregon, and went on to own three businesses by the age of 50: a trucking firm in Lyle, Washington, the Mosier Market, and finally Montero’s Mexican Restaurant in Hood River. But in semi-retirement she contributed even more, running the AARP Tax Aid program for 20 years. Ronell also volunteered for causes ranging from the Mosier Grange to hospice, providing end-of-life care for family, friends and local residents.
She traveled the world from the Maldives to Mexico, but home was always along her beloved Columbia River Gorge. Friends and family got down-to-earth advice — “open an IRA, vote, and get all your shots and mammograms” — and yearly shipments of fresh Mosier cherries. Pets from skunks and parakeets to dogs and stray kitties hit the jackpot when they adopted her.
She is survived by her loving brother Robert L Holmes, 77, nieces Teresa Bruce and Jennifer Donlon, and stepdaughter Elizabeth (and husband Tim) Dufour.
She was preceded in death by her sister Beverly Bruce, husbands Tim Clift and Lloyd Currie, and life partner James Duvall.
At her request there will be a private family burial at a later date without services.
