After a Columbia River Conference title in 2017, the HRV Boys tennis program heads into this season with high hopes of winning that conference title once again.
The 2018 campaign for the boys began with a home matchup versus St. Helens on Thursday, March 15.
Of the eight total singles and doubles matches, HRV completed a full sweep over the Lions.
“Great start to the season,” said head coach Jon Hiatt. “I am really proud of the number one doubles team who showed some grit and determination to come through to win.”
Adam Harter and Ben Fick, a senior and sophomore at HRV, make up the Eagles number one doubles team.
In their first match of the season, Harter and Fick went down in the first set by a score of 7-6 (3), the three representing the boys losing score in the tiebreaker.
But after opening the season with a set loss, the boys came back in sets two and three, winning 6-0 and 6-1 for their first victory together in the 2018 season.
At number two, Luke Harter and Arnulfo Perez swept their two sets, winning 6-0 in both.
Reece Carroll and Jay Fielder, number three for HRV, won both sets 6-1 versus St. Helens’ number three doubles team.
The Eagles number four team, sophomore John Hunter and freshman Jacob Kaplan, won by forfeit.
In singles competition, every HRV athlete swept their opponent: Vaughn Reardon, number one as a freshman, won 6-0 in both sets; Sawyer Bogard, number two as a senior, won 6-0 in both sets; Carson Schutt, number three as a junior, won 6-0 in both sets; and Chris Riviello, number four as a junior, won 6-0 in both sets.
