THE DALLES — Singer-songwriter Mac Cornish will perform at Wine on Second downtown on Oct. 1, touring in support of her second studio album “Wayfaring Woman,” which dropped on Sept. 25.
A Nashville folk-country record that reaches back to her Californian roots, the album was cut to tape at The Bomb Shelter in Nashville with Andrija Tokic (Alabama Shakes, Hurray For The Riff Raff, Langhorne Slim).
Cornish grew up in the shadow of the Santa Cruz mountains, where her parents’ record collection first introduced her to Laurel Canyon songwriters and musicians. That upbringing runs through this new album’s DNA, moving between classic country, folk, and West Coast rock.
There’s also a strong story around the album’s musicianship, with an impressive cast of players including Jack Lawrence (The Raconteurs, The Dead Weather), Dennis Crouch (The Time Jumpers), Dave Racine (Braxton Keith, Jim Lauderdale), Julian Doro (The Whigs, Eagles of Death Metal) and Russ Pahl.
Thematically, it’s the most personal she’s been to date: 10 songs about heartbreak, burnout, the process of letting go of the life she thought she’d have, and figuring out what actually fits now. Of course, there are also a couple songs about her experiences of life on the road.
Cornish has released multiple singles for this album with accompanying videos for each.
The album release follows Cornish’s growing presence on the Americana circuit, with performances alongside Silverada, Kelsey Waldon and Emily Nenni and appearances at Americanafest, SXSW, Treefort Music Fest and Jackalope Jamboree. Splitting her time between Southern California and Nashville, she’ll tour all around the Pacific Northwest this fall with more tour dates to be announced.
