Letter to the Editor: Great show

Friday’s downtown fashion show was outstanding! Congratulations to Luise Langheinrich and all involved. It was a fun evening, highlighting many of the wonderful businesses we still have downtown, supported by several business sponsors, and benefitting our local food bank.

I, for one, hope they’ll do it again. Many of these same businesses and many more have been patronized by the cruise ship passengers, too, another good thing that’s happening in our community and benefitting our economy. Not all the ship passengers have time to stroll downtown, but many do, and more this year than last.

This past week alone we met four ships! The Fort Dalles Floozies and Friends love our volunteer “job” and the passengers love it, thank us for greeting them, and leave with a good feeling about our town.

One passenger this week proudly told us she’d been here three times. Most are eager to have their picture taken with these historical characters, want to shake everyone’s hand, spend time interacting with us, even ask for applications to join us.

The Dalles’ reputation as a friendly and historical town is spreading, and that’s nothing but good for all of us.
