The HRV Fashion Club is searching for 14 to 16 future fashionistas to attend their Tutus and Tyvek Fashion Camp on April 11, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in at Hood River Valley High School.
As the Fashion Club prepares for their spring fashion show on April 16, junior Jennifer Furrow, with the help of Club Adviser Cathy Carter, is dedicating her EA Project to providing a small group of kids from the ages of five to nine the opportunity dip their toes in the world of fashion and design their own outfit to flaunt down the runway. Previous Fashion Camps have been held in the fall, prior to the Gala Fashion Show.
All the profits from the Tutus and Tyvek Fashion Camp, as well as the HRVHS Spring Fashion Show, are going to Lila May Schow, a Hood River four-year-old who is fighting cancer.
“We’re part of a sensationally supportive and compassionate community,” said Carter after she proposed the idea to the Fashion Club.
“It was a unanimous vote the moment she mentioned the inspirational little girl who’s captured the hearts of the Gorge,” said Furrow.
With the help of their personal assistants, otherwise known as the members of the Fashion Club, participants will be fabricating what Carter calls “outrageously fabulous” tutus and tyvek tops to model on the catwalk. All materials will be provided. A group of experienced sewers will also be available.
After a break for lunch and once the designs are complete, the future fashionistas will be guided through a rehearsal for the fashion show. The cost is $40, and due to the vast variety of dietary needs and preferences, youngsters need to bring their own lunch.
