Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
Rita Ann Henderson (Moore) was born Nov. 26, 1954, in Brookings, Oregon, to Thetez and James Moore. She was the fourth child and had five brothers and six sisters, as well as stepparents Jim Tison and Millie Moore.
Rita graduated high school in Eugene &and attended the University of Oregon for a time before dropping out to attend beauty school with her stepmom Millie.Â
She moved to Trout Lake and worked for the forest service, then settled into hair cutting for the rest of her career. She worked mainly at Strawberry Mountain Salon (Hair Shed) in White Salmon.
In 1986 she had one daughter, Alicia, who turned out to be almost as short as her (Rita was only 4-feet, 11-inches).
In 1995, she married the love of her life, Richard (Dick) Henderson and spent the next 25 years by his side until his passing. They loved going on long drives together and spending time with their three grandchildren, Jenna May Eccles (Alicia and son-in-law Derek’s daughter), and Emery Lark and Juniper Wren Simonson (stepdaughter Kelly and son in-law Joshua’s daughters). She loved them more than life and spent as much time with them as she could. They had many picnics, road trips and visits to the Oregon Coast Aquarium.
Rita passed away Sept. 9, 2026, at Providence Hospital in Hood River after a brutal second battle with cancer. Her last wish was to be reunited with her late husband, and we truly hope that happened for her. She is loved and will be missed more than words can say.
