An accident involving five vehicles last Saturday morning blocked the eastbound lane of State Route 14 at milepost 63 for about 90 minutes.
Angel P. Oriz, 42, of White Salmon was cited for second-degree negligent driving following the accident, which occurred about 7:09 a.m. near Cook-Underwood Road.
One of the passenger's in Oriz's 1998 Ford pickup, Karen Y. Oriz, 8, White Salmon, suffered head injuries and was transported by aid car to hospital for treatment. A second passenger, Kay M. Oriz, 6, White Salmon, was uninjured.
Here's what happened: Oriz was driving east on SR 14, approaching the Cook-Underwood Road. His vehicle left the roadway at the right shoulder and sideswiped a parked 1998 Ford pickup containing Dennis E. Bos, 56, Barbara L. Bos, 54, and Stephen M. Hazzard, 46, all of Outlook. None of the occupants was injured, but the vehicle they were sitting in received $1,000 worth of damage.
Oriz's Ford continued off the roadway and struck a parked 2000 Chevrolet pickup containing Jason D. McCormick, 24, of Yakima. McCormick escaped injury but the Chevy was totaled.
The second impact had a domino effect, pushing the Chevy into an unoccupied 2006 Dodge Ram pickup and the Dodge into an unoccupied 1990 Ford pickup. The Dodge sustained $10,000 worth of damage and had to be towed from the scene; damage to the 1990 Ford, which was driven from the scene, was estimated at $5,000.
Oriz's Ford pickup finally came to rest on its right side in the eastbound lane of SR 14. It was a total wreck and had to be towed away.
