The Hood River Valley wrestling team bounced back from a frustrating first day at the OSAA state championships in Portland to place four wrestlers in the top eight of their respective weight classes.
Senior Jacobe Krizman rebounded from a first-round loss to claim fifth place at 171 pounds, while fellow seniors Trent Shelton (152) and Tommy Owyen (275) each earned seventh place finishes.
Junior Rocky Level also made his way through the consolation bracket to take seventh place at 140 pounds -- a fitting end to a remarkable season for the Eagles, who sent a total of eight total wrestlers to state.
"We just had to forget about the earlier losses and focus on what was ahead, not what was in the past," Krizman said after his final match. "I'm proud to finish in the top five, and the other guys should be happy as well."
In the team standings, the Eagles stood in 11th place before the championship finals began. Thurston was right behind HRV, but had two wrestlers in the finals, and would finish ahead of HRV after the final tally.
