Maryhill Museum, the Goldendale Motorsports Association, and the Society of Vintage Racing Enthusiasts will hold the 4th Annual Maryhill Loops Hill Climb race and Concours de Maryhill car show on October 5 and 6.
On Saturday, Oct. 5, from noon to 4 p.m., visitors to Maryhill Museum will be able to view an array of vintage, classic and custom cars displayed throughout the Museum's extensive lawns.
Admission is free, refreshments are available.
A special feature of this year's car show and the hill climb race is the Corvette. The Corvette, both a symbol of America's wanderlust and a sports car, turns 50 this fall.
From 1 to 4 p.m., children can participate in making and racing cars fabricated from fruit and vegetables. Awards will be given to the winner and for best design and construction.
The vintage race cars competing in the hill climb race kick off the car show by parading on State Route 14 to the museum, and onto the grand lawn at noon.
This is an open car show, so anyone with a show car may enter. A barbecue dinner and award ceremony will be held on the Museum's picnic grounds at 4 p.m.
On Sunday, Oct. 6, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., the vintage 1930-63 sports cars will race up Maryhill Museum's newly refurbished historic Loops Road.
Constructed in 1913 by legendary road and car enthusiast Sam Hill, founder of Maryhill Museum, the road winds up a rural canyon south of Goldendale, just to the east of the juncture of SR 97 and SR 14.
In timed runs, the race cars will singly traverse the 2.8 mile course of 25 corners, eight of which are hairpin turns. Spectator viewing areas will be located along and overlooking the course.
Admission is $5, parking is free.
