THE GORGE — Lazarus Taylor and Luke Sorenson finished second and third overall, leading The Dalles High to second place in the boys varsity race at the Oct. 3 Run With Neil Invitational at Scappoose High School.
Portland’s Lincoln High scored 31 points to win the meet, which had 11 scoring boys teams. The Dalles scored 86 points, and The Riverhawks also had Zeb Stelzer (eighth), Anoki Nanie (35th) and Steven Chavez (38th) make up its team score. Taylor was just two seconds off his personal best, finishing the 5,000-meter course in 16 minutes, 32 seconds.
The Dalles girls finished third behind host Scappoose, which won with 17 points, and Lincoln. The Riverhawks had Alessandra Meza, Marley Perry and Josie Brace finish seventh, eighth, and tenth; Perry ran a personal best of 21:03 and was five seconds behind Meza. Gabriela Dominguez Bahena was 13th in a PR of 21:53, and Rozlyn Elliott was 14th.
Bruins race at Vancouver Lake
Columbia High School’s girls team, led by the 1-2 finish of Lilah Zimmerman and Kathryn O’Connor won a Trico League meet Sept. 30 at Vancouver Lake Park. The Bruin girls scored 26 team points to 43 for Seton Catholic and 51 for Stevenson. Zimmerman won the 5,000-meter race in 20:18 and O’Connor was second in 21:05. Columbia also received its team points from Eda O’Connor (fifth, personal record 22:45); Emme Lloyd (sixth, PR 22:58); and Maya Tama (12th, 24:50).
The Bruin boys were second to Seton Catholic, 22-33, which swept the first three spots. Jack Brooks and Colby Clark were fourth and fifth (17:56 PR, and 18:04), and Owen Becker-Nunley, Luther Thomas and Oliver Brookenshire (PR) also ran in a pack - finishing seventh through ninth within 19 seconds of each other.
Trout Lake
Trout Lake senior Melody Stock won the girls two-mile varsity race Oct. 3 at the Apple Ridge Invite in Yakima, WA. Stock ran the course in 19 minutes, 13 seconds; her teammate Felicity Peck was third in 19:59. Merrek Stock finished ninth (17:26) to pace the Glenwood/Trout Lake boys team in the varsity race.Â
