HRV Nordic shines in combined league race at Mount Bachelor

HRV boys had a great podium showing, with both Leif Bergstrom (third overall with a time of 12 minutes, 59 seconds) and Jesse Wiley (fifth overall with at time of 13:30), showing strong results. The top 10 boys demonstrated how consistent the Nordic talent is in Oregon, as all 10 were separated by only a minute and a half, with fourth through eighth places only seconds apart.

Bergstrom and Wiley were supported by teammates Elkin Parker (13th, 14:15), Muir Emmons (21st, 15:19, and Pelle Bergstrom (26th, 15:41). New racers worked hard and gained experience in the large field of racers. They included Aiden Wood (65th), Ethan Fowler (74th), Leo Kissenger (81st), Niko Swihart (83rd), and Aryan Agrawal (85th).

On the girls’ side, Daisy Dolan was the only podium finisher, coming in 10th with a time of 15:32. She was followed by teammates Ivy McDonald (of White Salmon) in 18th place, Samantha Thompson at 24th place, and Ruby McDonald (White Salmon) at 27th place. Alina Watt came in 42nd, Celia Acosta came in 61st, Lyric Emmons placed 65th, and Davis McIntosh rounded out the girls at 88th place out of 104 girls.

New racers were very pleased to see their times decrease and many of them had personal best records, HRV Nordic coaches reported.

In team relays, the boys came in third overall and the girls came in fifth.

Many of the team stayed in Bend an extra day and competed in the Desert Orthopedics Great Nordeen, an 18K and 30K downhill skate race.

Next up for the HRV Nordic team is participation in the Meadows Point Series this Saturday, and an OISRA league race Feb. 11 at Mt. Hood Meadows. This race will be a “pursuit/ski-a-thon” style race where racers are challenged to change boots and skis in the middle of the race in a “transition zone” and change from classic to skate style.
