THE DALLES — The Virtual Dementia Tour is a free community event, held in Dalles on Oct. 22-23 at St Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1805 Minnesota St.
There are shifts from 9 a.m. to noon and 1-4 p.m. each day. Participants will walk through a 6-minute immersive experience of what it is like to live with memory loss.
Sensory tools are used to simulate physical and cognitive challenges, allowing caregivers and others to experience the condition firsthand.
“The Second Winds Dream program aims to increase empathy and understanding for those people who live with dementia, leading to more person-centered and supportive care,” said a press release. “Not only for caregivers, it is for all of us who encounter people in the public sector who are living with dementia, whether in a health setting, or the grocery store.”
Attendees should allow about 30 minutes from beginning to end, with time afterwards to debrief, and learn what resources are available. Space is limited, so register soon. Email Jennifer.williams6@providence.org or call 541-387-6370.
