THE GORGE — Dufur enters the final week of the Big Sky League volleyball regular season one win away from clinching the conference’s No. 1 seed into the 2025 district tournament.
The Rangers (14-2 overall, 10-0 Big Sky) play home matches Oct. 14 against Lyle/Wishram (3-7) and Oct. 15 against Spray/Mitchell/Wheeler (4-6). Dufur is one game ahead of Ione/Arlington (9-1 league), which has remaining matches against Condon and Horizon Christian.
The format for the playoffs: the league’s top two finishing teams earn first-round byes into the district tournament. As of Oct. 12, the Big Sky’s No. 6 finisher (Spray) plays next week at No. 3 (South Wasco), No. 5 (Condon) is at No. 4 (Sherman) and winners advance to the Oct. 25 district tournament at The Dalles High School. The top three finishers from the four-school district tourney automatically qualify for the 32-team Class 1A state playoffs. Any additional Big Sky teams ranked among the top 32 in the OSAA rankings (as of Oct. 25) also qualify for state.
Sherman seemingly improved its OSAA ranking this past weekend, with nonleague wins over Southwest Christian and Adrian.
