THE GORGE — Sherman County earned a forfeit win Oct. 10, setting up a first-place showdown Oct. 17 against top-ranked Harper Charter in Class 1A six-man football.
Six-ranked Sherman (6-1) takes a six-game winning streak into the 7 p.m. home contest against Harper (6-0). The Huskies lost their season opener, 46-13, at Joseph, but have outscored opponents, 191-51, since that Aug. 29 contest.
In other six-man games last week, South Wasco County lost 60-8 at Jordan Valley on Oct. 10.
In 1A eight-man football, top-ranked Dufur (7-0) won 30-6 at Echo (3-3) on Oct. 10, while Lyle/Wishram earned a forfeit win over Pilot Rock/Ukiah. Dufur took a 14-6 halftime lead on a two-yard run by junior lineman Daylen Hammitt and a 24-yard quarterback scramble by Gavin Anderson. The Rangers added two third-quarter scores: Anderson snuck from five yards out behind the blocks of Hammitt and Ever Corbett; and Choice Richards returned an interception 25 yards for a TD.
