WALLA WALLA — White Salmon native Luke Samuels participated in commencement proceedings at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington, on May 19. A graduate of Columbia High School, Samuels received a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Whitman and graduated summa cum laude.
Wasco Co. students receive degrees
WALLA WALLA — The following Wasco County students received their Bachelor of Arts degrees from Whitman College on Sunday, May 19:

Students graduate from Linfield University
MCMINNVILLE — Following the spring 2024 semester, Linfield University awarded 510 degrees to 505 graduates, with five awarded double degrees. The commencement ceremony was held on the university’s McMinnville campus May 26.
Honors are determined once a student’s final grades have been submitted. For undergraduate students, these include summa cum laude (3.9-4.0 cumulative GPA), magna cum laude (3.8-3.89 cumulative GPA) and cum laude (3.65-3.79 cumulative GPA). Graduate students earn honors or high honors for earning a GPA of 3.8-3.89 and 3.9-4.0, respectively.
Local students who graduated are:
• Alberto Gallegos of The Dalles, who graduated with a Bachelor of Science in management.
• Arlette Santillan-Valdez of The Dalles, who graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in international relations and Spanish language and culture.
Local students named to Linfield’s Dean’s List
MCMINNVILLE — Linfield University named the following local students to the Spring 2024 Dean’s List:
• Neli Gonzaga Soto, a sophomore from Hood River, majoring in education.
• Giselle Gonzalez, a sophomore from Hood River, majoring in nursing.
• Isabella Moore, a junior from Hood River, majoring in nursing.
• Arlette Santillan-Valdez, a recent graduate from The Dalles, majoring in international relations and Spanish-language and culture.
The Dean’s List identifies undergraduate students who earned a GPA at least equivalent to a cum laude (3.65) while taking at least graded 12 credits.
EOU announces Spring Term Dean’s List
LA GRANDE — Eastern Oregon University named 591 students to the dean’s list for the 2024 spring term. Qualifying students achieve and maintain a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale while completing a minimum of 12 hours of graded coursework for the term.
