Nan Noteboom photoBINGEN — The Bingen City Council started its Sept. 1 meeting off without electricity, as they met during a power outage at City Hall. No video was available but audio could be heard for much of the meeting.
Student Representative Eda O’Connor introduced herself as she joined the council for her first meeting.
Mural breach update
The council briefly discussed updates to the mural breach of contract that was filed against Big Fish Properties, LLC, though they did not specify its status during the meeting.
They did clarify, in further outreach, that the complaint had been filed before city leadership knew that Big Fish Properties had, in fact, met with former Mayor Catherine Kiewit as well as the mural artist prior to the partial removal of the mural. While the affected area appeared large in the photo shared during the meeting, it was only a small part of the total mural, and the property owner has been working willingly to repair the mural after the door installation.
A city-issued statement reads, “Big Fish Properties, LLC has participated in ongoing discussions with the city and the artist to address the impact on the mural and determine an appropriate resolution.”
Ultimately, the city, property owner, and mural artist are collaborating to resolve the issue to everyone’s satisfaction.
