Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
Donald Peter (Don) Flerchinger, 94, of Hood River, Oregon, passed away on Oct. 7, 2026.
Don was born on July 21, 1932, in Lewiston, Idaho, to Joseph N. Flerchinger and Sophia A. Wolf. He grew up in Clarkston, Washington, graduated from Clarkston High School in 1950, and was an active member of the boxing team.
Don married Elvera R. Kurtz in 1956. Together, they raised three children, Joe, Greg, and Denise, and built a life centered around camping and exploring the geology and geography of Central Oregon. Elvera preceded him in death in February 2003.
Don married Carole Weick in September 2004. Together, they traveled extensively, particularly enjoying time in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, where they spent many happy days exploring the area, developing lasting friendships, and enjoying the company of family and friends.
Don spent many years managing a local Les Schwab Tire Store before embarking on a new venture: establishing his own vineyard and winery. His willingness to take on new challenges reflected his independent nature, entrepreneurial spirit and enthusiasm for life.
Don enjoyed the company of others and had a special way of making people smile. His sense of humor and the friendships he developed throughout his life will be fondly remembered by those who knew him.
Don is survived by his wife, Carole; his three children, Joe (Laura), Greg, and Denise (Mark); his three stepdaughters, Deann (Jim), Susan (Todd), and Carrie (Jake); six grandchildren, Nick, Shannon, Carter, Summer, Sydney, and Anastasia; four step-grandchildren, Zoe, Lexie, Allie, and Henry; four great-grandchildren, Liberty, Aleta, Sam, and Ben; and his two sisters, Margery Servatius and Alice Flerchinger. Aside from his first wife, Don is preceded in death by daughter-in-law Amy Flerchinger, his parents, and nine siblings.
Don lived a full and memorable life, leaving behind a legacy of family, friendship, and countless smiles. He will be deeply missed.
Donald’s funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1501 Belmont Ave., Hood River, with reception to follow next door at Anderson’s Tribute Center. A rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, also at St. Mary’s. Condolences may be shared with the family by visiting www.AndersonsTributeCenter.com.
