Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
Jesse James Fox, 87, passed away Oct. 7, 2026, leaving a legacy of perseverance, craftsmanship, and love for his family.
Born in Oakland, Arkansas, to Burt J. Fox and Esther May Reeves, Jesse grew up in Yakima, Washington, alongside six siblings.
In 1959, he married Nora Jean Couchman, and they welcomed four children: Teresa, Corena, Virginia, and Tony. In 1995, married his beloved wife, Janice Carolyn Dougherty, whom he met in 1991.
Jesse worked as a roofer, longshoreman, and machinist for Western Metal until retiring due to disability in 1990. In 1993, he prevailed in a landmark defective-pacemaker lawsuit that brought recognition from President Bill Clinton.
An outdoorsman, Jesse enjoyed fishing, boating, camping, gardening, and traveling. He loved animals and took pride in building and maintaining his property in Wasco, Oregon, especially a cabin he constructed for his family.
During his final three and a half years, Janice and daughter Teresa lovingly cared for him alongside dedicated hospice professionals and caregivers.
Jesse was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, daughter Virginia, and grandson Joshua. He is survived by Janice and children Teresa, Corena, and Tony; grandchildren Franesa, Amber, Richard, Jamie, Larissa, Kaylie, and Taylor; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Though his earthly journey has ended, his love, lessons, and memories will remain with his family always.
