VANCOUVER — DOL2Go, a DMV initiative from the Washington State Department of Licensing (DOL), has partnered with Fort Vancouver Regional Libraries to further its reach across rural communities throughout the state of Washington.
In rural areas of Washington, residents without a DMV location are required to travel to higher populated cities to receive support. Recently, DOL2Go has flipped that narrative. Launched in 2023, DOL2Go travels statewide via a mobile unit to provide licensing services to communities that lack access to a traditional brick-and-mortar location.
Services offered include: First-time Washington driver license or ID card; Out-of-state transfers; Driver license, permit, or ID card renewal; Driver record; Reinstatement letters; and Document review for proof of identity. DOL2Go does not offer a written or driving test.
Fort Vancouver libraries began the events earlier this year following the closure of Goldendale’s sole DMV office in May 2025. They partnered with DOL2Go and established their libraries as hubs for community members to gather to receive services. This month, they have already reached towns like Inchelium, Republic, and Coulee Dam, all of which have populations of only a few hundred according to the 2020 census.
“Our goal was to help people needing DMV services avoid the long drive to Yakima, White Salmon or Vancouver to access them,” said Sophie Ventura, communications and marketing director of Fort Vancouver Regional Libraries.
The next upcoming event will be on Oct. 22 at the Goldendale Community Library from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and appointments for that event can be made by calling the library at 509-773-4487.
The Fort Vancouver Regional Libraries plan to host more community events in the future to keep DMV services accessible to rural communities. “These events take place quarterly and we are planning to continue the tradition in 2027,” said Ventura.
DOL2Go does not make private house calls, but individuals can submit DOL2Go event request to request the service in their community. You can read more about the program on the DOL website, at www.dol.wa.gov/driver-licenses-and-permits/dol2go-mobile-unit.
