I have a shirt somewhere that has no writing on it whatsoever, I just can never seem to find it. Almost every shirt I own has some sort of writing or graphic on it, or at least a team logo.
So, in honor of my wardrobe, here are some t-shirt sayings I have seen.
•••
Lord, give me patience because if you give me strength I’m gonna need bail money too
The reason I am old and wise is because God protected me when I was young
and stupid
•••
If you are going to
believe everything you read, read the bible
•••
If you bring up my past, you should know that Jesus dropped the charges
•••
I wanted to go
jogging but Proverbs 28:1 says “The
wicked run when no one is chasing them” So there’s that
•••
When you step on the scale, remind yourself that you’re wearing the full
armor of God, and that stuff is heavy
•••
This too shall pass. It may pass like a kidney stone, but it’ll pass
•••
And then this one that got me thinking:
I saw a t-shirt the other day with a slogan that read:
“All my role models went to jail — Jesus, Joseph, Daniel, Paul, John the Baptist”
Some of these men were imprisoned through no fault of their own, and some counted the cost and made the choice knowing there would be a price to pay for their boldness.
Yes, there are times when the innocent are proclaimed guilty, but in most cases one’s choices define the outcome. With this in mind, there is something I want to say to my grandsons. I have four of them. So I wrote them this note:
Boys, it’s important for you to know how the world works.
If you choose to do what you want and not listen to instruction, your teacher will have no choice. You will get sent to the principal’s office. This should not come as a surprise to you. If it does, you should not be surprised if it happens again the next time you act up. If you choose to not listen to the principal you will get to hear from your mom and dad. If you survive that session, and keep doing only what you want, you will begin to develop a reputation. You will become known as a trouble maker, problem child, and much, much worse.
If you choose to not listen to sound teaching, and refuse to be taught life’s hard lessons, you can try to explain your actions to the arresting officer, and then the judge, and then the warden. Maybe your cell mate will see things your way.

Is this too harsh a message for young teens and preteens? You decide. I just think someone should tell them. Because they won’t see this message on a t-shirt.
