Marsh honored

THE DALLES — There was standing room only when The Dalles City Council meeting began on Sept. 28, as Mayor Rich Mays handed local entrepreneur and longtime community volunteer Corliss Marsh a Certificate of Recognition.

Mays first met Marsh while running for office in 2018. In chats with community members about who to talk to, her name kept popping up, so they met for coffee.

“The City of the Dalles recognizes Corliss for her many years of service,” he said. “For her care, her generosity, and her lasting commitment to the community.”

Marsh was appointed to the Wasco County Library Board of Trustees in 1999, where she has offered thoughtful guidance for more than 27 years. She has also supported Friends of the Library and the Library Foundation and taught quilting classes.

An office manager with Columbia Gorge Habitat for Humanity, Marsh has served the community in numerous ways, including work with the Dalles Farmers Market, the Fort Dalles Floozies, the Senior Center Board, the Columbia Gorge Community College Foundation, the Wahtonka Food Pantry, the Community Backpack, the NORCOR Resource Coalition, and her church.

She has served on the city’s budget committee and interview panels, and through her quilt-making, has brought comfort to patients at the Celilo Cancer Center — to babies, veterans, and patients.

“You forgot the mahjong,” Marsh joked. “I’m trying to make The Dalles the mahjong capital of the world.”
