The Columbia Gorge Children’s Advocacy Center (CGCAC) has been awarded a 3 year grant from the Ford Family Foundation to fund child abuse prevention training.
According to Debi Baskins, CGCAC’s executive director, the three year grant will be used to fund Stewards of Children child abuse prevention program. The training, developed by Darkness to Light, a national child advocacy organization, teaches adults how to prevent, recognize and react responsibility to child sexual abuse. The program is designed for organizations that serve youth and individuals concerned about the safety of children. The evidence-informed program is designed to increase knowledge, improve attitudes, and change child protective behaviors.
“The work of protecting our children is the responsibility of the adults in their lives,” said Baskins. “With the help of the Ford Family Foundation, we will be able to educate a large number of adults who can help to keep our children safe.” The first training will be offered in April.
Darkness to Light is the recognized national leader in the field of child sexual abuse prevention education for adults, with affiliates in all 50 U.S. states and 16 additional countries.
A non-profit organization, the CGCAC provides a range of services to children who have been physically and sexually abused. Working together with law enforcement investigators, child protective services and the district attorney’s office, the CGCAC offers a safe, child-friendly site that is necessary for a well-coordinated, effective approach to child abuse investigation and prosecution. CGCAC volunteers and local youth will be placing blue ribbons at local parks and along Oak Street April 4 in honor of Child Abuse Awareness Month.
