CASCADE LOCKS — The city is waiting for Rocket Mortgage to foreclose on the distressed property on SW Benson St., Interim City Administrator Gordon Zimmerman told council during the Sept. 14 meeting. When that process is complete, they will collaborate on the clean up and/or sale of the property, he said.
Zimmerman had further updates: The information for the 2023-24 audit has been submitted to the auditors. Staff has begun gathering the information for the 2024-25 audit. Zimmerman is hopeful that Dec. 31 is still the goal for getting caught up on audits.
He also reported the city has concluded its Water System Improvement Project at a cost of $250,913. Adding additional valves will improve flow and service availability on Wheeler and Venture streets. The roof on city hall has been repaired and the work is complete at a total cost of $50,242 and under budget. And repair work on the Ruckel Creek slide was expected to begin on Sept. 21.
He added that the city will benefit from those who camped during Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) Days, expecting $731.50 for Transient Lodging Taxes, which are set at 7% in the city.

Following the regular meeting, the council met in Executive Session, then resumed the regular meeting to approve the contract that will be offered to new City Administrator Alexander Nelson.
