Vehicle owners should pay extra attention to vehicle renewal notices received from the Department of Licensing for the next few of months.
Renewal notices were mailed later than usual for vehicles with tabs that expire in January, and February notices also will show up in mailboxes a little later than usual.
The delays in sending renewal notices are related to fee changes contained in Initiative 776, passed by voters last November.
"We certainly regret any inconvenience this might cause, but it is important to provide vehicle owners with accurate fee information on their notices," Nancy Kelly, assistant director for the Vehicle Services division, said.
Pending legal action surrounding Initiative 776 could again change fees and delay renewal notices in coming months. Vehicle owners should continue to pay close attention to the month and year tabs on their license plates and the specific expiration date on their vehicle registration for the next several months to see when their renewal is due.
