WHITE SALMON — Columbia High School sophomore Levi Connell jumped a high school personal best of 20 feet, 4 inches to win the long jump at a four-team track and field meet April 15 at Fort Vancouver High School.
The Bruins, Castle Rock and LaCenter joined host Fort Vancouver in the Trico League meet.
Other top marks for the Columbia boys were freshman Barrett Smith’s 35-foot shot put effort, and Simon Caldwell’s 5-6 mark to win the high jump. The Bruins had another win from sophomore Colby Clark in the 3200-meter run. Clark ran a season best 11 minutes, 6.24 seconds and he pulled along his junior teammate Luther Thomas to a personal best of 11:15.61.
The Columbia girls team had four first-place finishes, including the 1-2 showing of Jana Deinhofer and Hailey Tolbert in the high jump. Deinhofer cleared 4-4 and Tolbert managed 4-0 — in addition to her win in the 100 hurdles (17.42 seconds).
Sara Miller won the 200 in a season best 26.55 and finished third in a competitive 100. Fort’s Savaya Sanders won the race in a personal best 12.86, Castle Rock’s Jasmine Schatz was second in 12.9, and Miller ran 12.95.
Junior Lilah Zimmerman had the Bruins’ other win, racing mostly by herself to a 5:41.23 clocking in the 1600 meters.
Also of note for the Columbia girls was the 2-3 finish of Olivia Allen and Maya Tama in the 800; Allen ran a season best of 2:37.32 and Tama ran 2:42.08. Senior Mariela Casarez was second in the 300 hurdles in 53.31. She also joined Deinhofer, Willow Cohen, and Miller to run the 4x200 relay in 1:58.99.
