THE DALLES — The Dalles High School softball team put together a dominant four-game stretch last week.
The Riverhawks beat Stayton, 7-3, on April 16; Sweet Home, 7-3 on April 17; Junction City, 10-0, on April 18; and Marshfield, 15-0, on April 18 to finish the week. The Riverhawks outscored their opponents 39-6 across the four games, including two shutouts and a pair of double-digit offensive outings.
The week began at Stayton, where the Riverhawks (13-2) scored consistently throughout the game, plating runs in four different innings to build the lead. The offense finished with seven hits, while the Riverhawk pitching staff limited the Eagles (4-7) to seven hits.
On April 17, The Dalles returned home to battle the Sweet Home Huskies (6-5). The Riverhawks broke the game open with a five-run fifth inning. The Dalles totaled nine hits and played clean defense, committing no errors.
The Riverhawks kept rolling on April 18 against the Marshfield Pirates (3-10). The Riverhawks exploded for nine runs in the first inning and never looked back. The Dalles collected 12 hits in the game and backed up the big offensive night with another strong outing on the mound.
Later that same day, The Dalles capped the week against Junction City (3-7). The Dalles controlled the game from the start, holding Junction City to two hits. The pitching staff delivered another shutdown performance, and the offense stayed patient while adding insurance runs late in the 10-0 win.
Next up, The Dalles travels to Madras for a Tri-Valley League matchup against the White Buffaloes (3-8) at 4:30 p.m. on April 23.
