No lives were lost in a fire on Washington St. Sunday morning. The volunteers' pagers went off at 5:04 a.m., according to Fire Chief Wayne Trosper, Although Lyle, Bingen and High Prairie Departments united in battling the blaze, the structure was fully engulfed before their arrival on the scene and the structure was lost. This was a mobile home that was being set up in a lot next to the Lyle Fire Hall. Wishram was storing a 3000 gallon fully loaded tanker truck at the department and the added water, along with the new siding, helped to save the fire hall itself. Also lost in the blaze was a small motor home. The area is taped off while an investigation is underway.
Good to see Alma (Ensley) and Tom McClure back in town for a few months. Alma reported at church Sunday that they will be here until September.

From old newspaper clippings (paper unknown) "65 years ago in 1907"
"Uncle Jim" Lyle (of Lyle) was in a reminiscent mood when he recalled some changes that have taken place since 40 years ago. He noted that the old OSN Co. declared there was no landing at Lyle and early settlers were required to row a small boat out to mid stream to get aboard the passing steamboat. The austerity of the corporation continued until 1881, when the independent streamer "Gold Dust" ran in mid-river and the Captain Spencer made landing at Lyle and pronounced it the best landing on the run."
The nicest thing about the future is that it always starts tomorrow.
