Centennial committee seeks ideas for planning celebrations

There's another New Year's "countdown" in White Salmon -- the city is preparing for its centennial celebration during the summer of 2007.

Projects now under way by the Gorge Heritage Museum include a postage stamp being designed by local school youngsters commemorating the centennial. The post office will sell the stamps, take pre-sale orders, and provide "first day covers." After the event, the die will be presented to the Gorge Heritage Museum.

The White Salmon post office chose a project to re-enact the first mail delivery from Bingen (which was the original site of White Salmon) to Trout Lake. A delivery will be made by postal employees on horseback carrying saddlebags of mail.

The Centennial Celebration Committee wants to contact local clubs, organizations, churches, businesses, etc. Committee members will distribute "Centennial Celebration Packs" to assist in planning of projects.

"Don't wait -- participate!"
