THE DALLES — The Dalles High Riverhawks Class 4A boys golf team posted a season-best score of 381 to take second place in the Dufur Ranger Invitational Tournament April 11 at The Dalles Country Club.
The Riverhawks, guided by Coach Dan Telles, were led by medalist Leighton Voodre, a senior who shot a season-best 88. Voodre’s teammate, senior Gabriel Hoff, also shot a season-best score of 89 to take second. The Dalles’ junior Andrew Westin shot 94 for a season-best score and an eighth-place finish out of 46 golfers.
“They played really good, and they’re improving every week. Everyone played well and that’s all that I can ask of them. Leighton did a great job too and everyone has improved tremendously. They’re all trying to improve and get ready for the regional preview tournament [April 29],” Telles said.
The Dufur High Rangers had two golfers competing, including seniors Klayton Schanno (99) and Hunter Woods.
Nine girls teams competed in the Dufur tourney and the Class 4A La Grande High Tigers took first place in team scoring with 428. The Class 1A Dufur High Rangers shot 430.
Dufur was led by first-place individual medalist Tygh Timinsky, a junior who shot a top score of 71 to lead 37 golfers. The Rangers also had a solid performance by juniors Cynthia Medina, who shot 105 for 11th place and Kaylee Wiles (117), who took 19th place.
The Class 2A Trinity Lutheran High Saints won the 11-team boys tourney with a score of 376. The Riverhawk boys team will compete in their seventh OSAA Class 4A Special District 1 tournament, April 17 at 8:30 a.m. at Birch Creek Golf Course in Pendleton.
